Cycling to work can dramatically improve your general fitness and is proven to help reduce stress and anxiety. With on site secure cycle storage, showers and changing facilities some of the normal barriers to commuting by bike have been removed (for those living close enough!) and you can even get a new bike at significantly reduced prices through the Cycle to Work Scheme.

As many people will be aware TfL have invested heavily in cycling infrastructure in recent years, with both the Cycle Superhighways and the on street bike hire scheme’s both providing really popular.

The sections below highlight the local facilities and the way in which the bank supports cycling.

  • Cycle storage, showers & changing facilities

    There are a total of 221 cycle parking spaces available to staff, 121 of which are in the car park and 100 of which are in the Taxi Rank.

    Those who cycle to work are able to make use of the shower and changing facilities within the gym at a cost of £1 per visit or £15 per month (for non members).
  • Plan a journey by bike

    If you are new to cycling in the area, or haven’t been out on your bike for a while, it’s worth checking out the best route to work – with lots of off street routes and designated cycle lanes you may just find it’s a lot simpler than you thought!

    The TfL website has a really easy to use Cycle Journey Planner which can help you plan out your best route. The tool allows you to specify how easy (or difficult) you would like the route to be, and lets you add options to take your bike on public transport.
  • Adult cycle training

    If it’s been a while since you last went out on your bike, or you’d like to get a bit of advice and support on local routes and options then Cycle Confident offer a range of free training services.

  • Cycle to Work scheme: save up to 42% on the cost of a new bike

    The BAML UK 'Cycle to Work' scheme allows you to take advantage of the government initiative that offers bikes through salary sacrifice meaning you can save 32-42% on the cost of a new bicycle and cycling gear. You can download a form from the MyBenefits pages of the Flagscape portal to participate in the scheme.

    Each employee can spend up to £1000 on a bicycle, accessories and other cycling equipment. What you purchase is up to you. You don't even have to purchase a bike and can spend the full amount on cycling gear.

    There are over 500 brands to choose from wtihin the Cyclescheme network. You can use the retail finder here to search for participating shops in your area.

    The savings calculator here lets you see how much you can save.

    Put simply you choose a bike, hire it for 12 months then pay a fraction of its original value after a year to own it outright. This final payment will not exceed £70 if you take the extended use option. More details can be found in the Cyclescheme FAQs here .
  • Cycle hire

    You’ll probably be familiar with the large scale on street cycle hire scheme now in operation across London. For a business meeting in the centre of London, or perhaps to pop somewhere at lunch, they offer a convenient and cost effective alternative to the Tube or bus.
